3A - Your Entrepreneurship Story
My best friends father has an amazing story. It’s a little too long to tell here, but in short, he’s an Olympic skier, pilot, captain, father of three, was a millionaire before he was turned 30, and an entrepreneur. And he’s crashed planes, sunk boats, and lost everything. But he never gave up. And he built it all back.
It took a few months before I really got to know him, and - even then - another two years before I learned a fraction of his life. But I was struck by how determined he was when I first met him. And a lot of his traits he attributes to fostering (and strengthening) an entrepreneurial mindset. Until then, I didn’t really know what being an entrepreneur meant. Now I realize that it means my father went from working on a farm in Kentucky for minimum wage (while barely speaking English) to being a successful consultant living in Boca Raton. It means my best friend has found a way to provide funding for grade schools in the Boston area that lack proper water filters for schools' lead lined pipes. And after watching a TED talk (This country isn't carbon neutral - it's carbon negative), it means I see a way for me to make differences in both my life and others that I didn’t see before. And it made me feel like I have a dream. I never wanted anything quite the same way before, and now I think I’ve found a way to pursue that "dream."

Through ENT3003, I hope to gain the skills required to understand the basics of developing entrepreneurial ideas, and start testing those ideas (either through the class or via the gator hatchery). I also want to take advantage of office hours and ask Prof. Pryor any questions I have about making decisions as an entrepreneur.
This was such a cool and inspiring story to read! Considering your exposure to entrepreneurship was so closely related to you is also notable. My parents were a direct link for me to learn more about entrepreneurship, so I know what it feels like to see it first-hand. No doubt it takes a lot of work and determination and it is truly inspiring to the people around them.
ReplyDeleteI love your story! It is always amazing when someone is inspired by a parent because often times that is not the case but it should be. Your dad seems to have the drive, ambition, and confidence it takes to be an entrepreneur and sounds as if you have learned those traits from him! Keep up the good work and good luck in your future!
ReplyDeleteHey! I simply loved it. the way you explained it and made things clear between yiur best friend's dad and your father. It is all about caring and sharing that information so young people can learn what they learnt with the years there is a saying that says " a fool learns with his mistakes, a wise man learns with the mistakes of others" . it was a good story !
